To market, to market !
May 13, 2012
Sunshine, that’s right sunshine occurred on Saturday and boy did everyone know it! When the sun shines in the UK Brits rejoice on an epic scale and they come out in force to eat 99′s, go to the beach and show as much flesh as physically possible without getting done for indecent exposure.
On this fine day in May, I decided to join in with the light hearted frivolity that sunshine in this blessed country promotes so I ventured out to Saltburn Farmers Market. I enjoy this event and I visit it as often as I can as I love the atmosphere it has. When the market is busy the air buzzes with ideas and entrepreneurial wisdom. Tester samples here and a 2 for 1 deal there and masses of natural local produce throughout. Smashing!
There are no pretentious gimmicks, no back handed slogans, just local stuff with local people, keeping it real. There isn’t a mega smattering of stalls which lessens the ‘car boot sale’ feel that some local markets have and there is a good range of products to peruse. From wonderful Fudge Fancies to a delicious swig of Adams Apple juice, local butchers and bakers and candlestick makers (or near enough), all in magnificent attendance.
If you’re looking for fresh local produce, something different, diverse jewellery pieces, fine arts and crafts all with a local North Easterly swagger, get yourself to a local market as often as possible. The Saltburn edition of these fabulous market meetings normally occur on the second Saturday of the month between March and December. Christmas markets are definitely not ones to be missed. Much Love
